Our Story
The Immersion, Projects, Appreciation and Tribute (IMPACT) was the brainchild of former Dean of the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Professor Dato’ Dr. Adnan Hussein.
Established in 2008, it was first commenced as a platform for the School of Communication students from the majors of journalism, persuasive communication and film and broadcasting to exhibit their ideas and creative works to the media industry.
As years progressed, IMPACT has now become a prominent avenue for communication students of higher education institutions from all over Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region to network, share knowledge and collaborate with one another.
This year, IMPACT is back again with a whole new look, theme and energy for you and your team. We are here to create opportunities to help you foster impactful dialogue among communication and media institutions and industry to foster the international exchange of creativity, build connections, promote cross-cultural communication and celebrate your ideas and accomplishments.
Now in our 11th year, IMPACT is dedicated to inspire and celebrate all communication and media students for their endearing and hard work throughout their studies. Aside from that, various competitions and activities will be held during IMPACT including competitions like feature writing, public speaking, photography, short video, best university paper, best university magazine, communication campaign and more. Activities lined up include film festival, cultural dance night, Comm Nite dinner and Penang Heritage Trail.

Our Vision
Based in Penang, the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia, IMPACT envisions to become a premier annual event for you, communication and media students, whether from higher learning institutions in Malaysia or in the Southeast Asian region to gain valuable experience and learning in preparing you for the ever-changing market.
Our Mission
- To provide the opportunity for the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia students to showcase their ideas and creative work.
- To become a platform for competition participants who consist of communication and media students from various higher learning institutions in Malaysia and internationally to network, share experiences and learn from one another.
- To provide an avenue for participants and students to gather more knowledge on the real-world through the sharing sessions and activities with the media industry experts that are organized throughout IMPACT.
Our new theme
This year, our theme is ‘FUN & FUNKINESS’ for more joyful pursuits with you. We aim to offer you a lively, informative and entertaining platform for all communication and media students as well as media industry players, spectators and competition participants.
Our slogan, ‘Your ideas. Your triumph.”
With a more modern and youthful feel, the new slogan “Your ideas. Your triumph.” Is all about your creativity in communicating your knowledge and skills to the real world. The liner also symbolizes that IMPACT is an avenue for us to celebrate your hard effort, creative work and determination.
