On behalf of the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), I’m honored to welcome you to the Immersion Project, Appreciation and Tribute or IMPACT 2019. IMPACT is an ideal avenue for communication students to showcase their products, participate in different competitions and more importantly to network and learn from the industry experts.

 

Over the years, IMPACT has gone from strength to strength, from being an event only for the final year students of the School of Communication, USM, to a premier, regional level gathering involving communication students from different higher learning institutions locally and abroad.

 

In this year’s edition, ‘Fun and Funkiness’ has been chosen as the theme for IMPACT 2019. This theme echoes with our aim to inject youthful feeling among the participants, and more importantly, to instill the fun element in every creative work that they do, be it in the production of short video, feature writing or advertising. We also realize on the importance of nurturing students’ creativity, and for that, ‘Your Ideas. Your Triumph.’ is chosen as the slogan. In order to thrive in the era of disruptive technology, it is necessary for students to acquire the right skillset and to be more creative.        

 

This year, USM celebrates its 50th anniversary. Hence, in conjunction with this meaningful occasion, IMPACT 2019 aspires to be the biggest and the most exciting ever. Among the major highlights of IMPACT 2019 include showcase of students’ creative work, various competitions, pocket events featuring leading industry experts and cultural performances.

 

Lastly, I would like to encourage the participants to also take the opportunity to explore and enjoy Penang. Being the melting pot of cultures, Penang has a lot to offer. May your participation in IMPACT 2019 be a meaningful and memorable one.
