The Communication Academics’ Seminar is the third in a series of successful seminars on Communication and Media organized by the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia.  The first one was conducted in 2017 as an inaugural seminar followed by the 2018 seminar with a theme on  Emerging Communication Issues in Contemporary Nusantara.  This year,  the journalism section of the School of Communication will be hosting the seminar with a theme entitled Communication and Culture in the Digital Era.  This seminar is a strategic initiative to synthesize the expertise, knowledge and experiences of communication academics and practitioners of the Nusantara region. It is also an integral component of the annual School of Communication’s IMPACT Week programme and it aims to facilitate and deepen the conversation about how has digital age changed culture and communication.

The scope of the Seminar

Participants are encouraged to submit full papers that approach the seminar theme – Communication and Culture in the Digital Era – from a variety of perspectives within the scope of communication field which includes:

Broadcast Media and Globalization

Digital Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations

Critical and Culture Study

Gender and Communication

Media, Environment and Health

Visual Communication

Digital Media and the Use of Technology

Political Communication

Law, Policy and Media Ethics in the Digital Era

Important Dates

1 October 2019 : Call for papers

1 November 2019 : Deadline for full paper submission

20 November 2019 : Notification of acceptance

1 December 2019 :   Deadline for payment

Registration Fee

Regular registration: RM50

Student registration: RM30

Publication Opportunities

All accepted papers will be published electronically in the Full Paper Seminar Proceedings with ISBN number (free of charge) after plagiarism check and double-blind peer review.

Selected papers will be invited to submit an extended full paper for peer-reviewed publication in special issues on Malaysian Journal indexed by Scopus. 

Full Paper Submission

Format:

  1. Should be written in English

  2. Be of 3,000 – 3,500 words in length

  3. Citation in APA style

  4. Times New Roman, 12 pts, double spacing

  5. Should be in Word

  6. Abstract should be of 250 words in length

  7. Keywords (maximum five words)  

  8. Full papers will undergo peer review and the results will be returned to you generally within three weeks.
